Dear Brave Tribe,
If there’s one question I get asked again and again, it’s “Why all the feathers?”
I’m not ashamed to admit it: I’m a feather obsessive. I love them, and it shows. Feather art adorns the walls of my house, feathers are emblazoned on my clothes, and I go foraging for new and beautiful finds on the regular.
So it’s no surprise that my deep connection with feathers is one of the main themes running through my Brave Lotus designs.
I’ve always been drawn to feathers - whether on the birds in the sky or on the people that have used them to create fascinating tribal adornments since time began.
Yes, they’re beautiful and wonderful to look at, but it’s also about what they stand for. Feathers are a symbol of flight and of freedom.
One belief is that when you find a feather, or one unexpectedly floats across your path, it’s a sign that angels are nearby.
I like to think of feathers as one of nature’s original talismans… Simple, beautiful objects with a hidden meaning and their own empowering energy. Like a bird that soars through the boundless sky with a view of all things from high above, feathers symbolise the ability to transcend and move beyond your mental barriers and limitations - to see the bigger picture and understand what really matters.
Feathers and Brave Lotus
I’m by no means the first to harness the natural and bewitching power of the feather in my designs. Tribes from all four corners of the globe have been collecting feathers and using them in costume and dress throughout the history of humanity. And that’s where I find my own inspiration.
The newest addition to the Brave Lotus feather menagerie are my feather paintings, which I’m now selling in the shop for the first time. Using watercolours and a fine paint brush, each hand-painted design is as unique as the feathers found in nature - and they’re all hand finished with 24K gold leaf.
I also create bespoke framed feather pieces: real feathers brought together in frames to make art for your home. Each one is handmade and I only use feathers I’ve found myself or sourced ethically. Hit me up by email if you’d like to chat about an order.
So there you have it, my unashamed feather obsession laid bare.
